Our family

127 years.
One quiet promise.

The Heard family has served Lower Bibb County since 1899. The faces have changed. The promise has not.

Most funeral homes are businesses that care for families. The Heard family is a family that chose to care for other families — and has done so for 127 years.

That distinction matters. When you call in the middle of the night, it is not a call center. When you walk through the farmhouse, it is not a showroom. When the director sits with you, they are not on a commission. The Heard family built this place to be genuinely different — and the 10-acre property at 6125 Houston Road shows it.

Our history

127 years in
Middle Georgia.

The property

A farmhouse from 1828.
A barn that became a chapel.

There is nowhere else in Middle Georgia quite like this.

The main building at 6125 Houston Road is a 2,880-square-foot residential farmhouse, built in 1828 — nearly 200 years old. It was thoughtfully repurposed rather than replaced, because the Heard family understood that a building with that kind of history carries something most modern facilities cannot manufacture.

The 1,200-square-foot barn on the property was converted into a rustic chapel. Natural timber. Private grounds. The kind of space where a service feels personal, not institutional. Families who hold services here consistently tell us it is the most meaningful setting they have ever experienced.

Both sit on 10 private, gated acres surrounded by Georgia greenery — a world away from the road, and a world away from the way most funeral homes feel.

"Our prices cannot be beaten in all of Lower Bibb County — and neither can the care we give."

On-site crematory

Your loved one never
leaves our care.

Cremations are performed in our own on-site crematory — by our own staff, on our own grounds.

Many funeral homes in the area send cremations to third-party facilities. We do not. When you choose cremation at Sardis-Heard, you have the option to witness it, and you have our word that your loved one remains with us from the moment we receive them until they are returned to you.
